Civil War Round Table of St. Charles

Battle of Wilson’s Creek Tour and Battle of Springfield Tour

March 28-29, 2026, Springfield, MO

We will meet at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, in front of the Visitor Center at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield. We will begin by touring the museum inside the visitor center to gain an overview of the battle, then head out onto the battlefield itself.

The tour will consist of a series of stops at key locations on the battlefield, where the events that took place in each area will be explained within the broader context of the battle. Questions and discussion are encouraged. Please note that the tour will involve some walking.

The staff at Wilson’s Creek has informed me that living historians will be present at the Ray House, one of our tour stops.

There is no water available on the battlefield, so please bring water with you. We will not stop for lunch during the tour, so bring snacks if you may need them before supper. There are also no restroom facilities on the battlefield, but we will plan a restroom break during the tour.

After the tour, those who wish to continue the fellowship are invited to meet at Flat Creek Republic restaurant in Republic, about a six-minute drive from the visitor center, for a late lunch and conversation.

For those staying overnight in Springfield and interested in continuing the tour, we will meet again at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 29, in the center of Park Central Square in downtown Springfield. We will discuss the history of Springfield’s square, its significance during the Civil War, and provide an overview of the Battle of Springfield. From there, we will depart on a tour of sites associated with the battle.

There is ample free parking off Boonville Street just north of the square.

If you have any questions about the trip, please feel free to contact me. See you soon,
